Biology Question #2380
Tom Henson, a 14 year old male from Bettendorf, Iowa asks on November 27, 2004,
I am doing a science project on how light affects plant growth. If you could answer my 10 questions it would be a great help:
1.Does light color effect plants?
2.Can a lightbulb support plantlife?
3.Do they make lightbulbs to simulate sunlight?
4.Do these lightbulbs work well?
5.Is there a type of substitute lightbulb that you would reccomend?
6.Is it neccassary to simulate night and day when the plants are under bulblight?
7.Will a plant under bulb grow less than a plant in the sun?
8.Can a plant die from to much light? (assuming they are watered regularly)
9.Does the watt of a lightbulb effect the plant?
10.Would you reccomend a lamp shade or other coverign to soften a lightbulb's light?

Question: I am doing a science project on how light affects plant growth. If you could answer my 10 questions it would be a great help: 1.Does light color effect plants?
Yes
2.Can a lightbulb support plantlife?
yes
3.Do they make lightbulbs to simulate sunlight?
yes
4.Do these lightbulbs work well?
yes
5.Is there a type of substitute lightbulb that you would reccomend?
go to www.google.com and type in: growing plants under lights
6.Is it neccessary to simulate night and day when the plants are under bulblight?
yes--for some plants the length of day is important for flowering or fruit.
7.Will a plant under bulb grow less than a plant in the sun?
It depends what kind of plant and bulb. In general sun is best.
8.Can a plant die from too much light? (assuming they are watered regularly)
yes
9.Does the watt of a lightbulb effect the plant?
yes, the more watts the more growth--to a point.
10.Would you reccomend a lamp shade or other coverign to soften a lightbulb's light?
Probably does not matter.
