The Story
Born and educated in Poland, Dr. Stuchly did her post-doctoral work at the University of Manitoba. From 1976 to 1991, she worked as a Research Scientist at the Bureau of Radiation and Medical Devices, Health and Welfare Canada. In 1978, she was an Adjunct Professor in the Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Ottawa. In 1990 she was the Founding Director of the Institute of Medical Engineering, University of Ottawa.
In 1992 Stuchly moved to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Victoria. She has held an Industrial Research Chair there since 1994.
Dr. Stuchly is a Director of the Board of the Wireless Information Resource Centre (WIRC), an independent non-profit organization. She served as President of the Bioelectromagnetics Society in 1987 and as Vice-President of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) in 1996. Her papers on the biological effect of electromagnetic fields are often cited by other professionals in the field. She currently studies the effects of power lines and cellular phones on the human body.
